Home : Portfolio : Design Critique: Waxholmsbolaget

Waxholmsbolaget is a company that operates ferries in the Swedish archipelago.
The problem is that it that Waxholmsbolaget's ferries are difficult to travel with. The culprit? The company's timetables.

This is a critique of their timetables.

Before

Organized by Lines
Waxholmsbolaget's timetables are organized by lines--each table shows all of the stops along a particular line.

This organization is useful for the company, because it needs to know where each boat will be at different times, but it is not helpful for passengers.
If a passenger wants to travel from A to B, they will need to look at the table for every line that travels from A to B to find out what time they can travel.

Stack of timetables
Passengers could have to look through a big stack of timetables.

After

Organized by Stops
Now, all lines that go from one stop to another are listed in one place.
This organization is much easier for passengers: they need only look up where they are travelling from and where to, and the table will list all of the trips that will get them there.
